Longwood Gardens Sightseeing

Sightseeing will occupy most of a day to see all the gardens and greenhouses.  The best time to go for the tulip bloom is in the third and fourth week of April and into May.

At Longwood Gardens, between
April 1 and May 28 the flowering trees and Spring flowers, including 100,000 tulips and daffodils,  bloom.
The third week in April is considered peak bloom, but each year it varies by a week or so depending on weather conditions. Third and fourth week in April should prove favorable regardless of variables in the weather.  
Sightseeing in the Brandywine Valley and Longwood Gardens will put you near Penn Dutch Amish region of Lancaster County and the villages of  Bird-in-Hand, Intercourse, Strasburg, and Paradise.

From the south take Route 95 to Baltimore and continue to wards Philadelphia.

By air:
Philadelphia Airport and rental car to Route, One Kennett Square

When to Go To Longwood Garden:  


April is a good month to visit because you might combine your visit to to Longwood with a visit to Amish country.   At Longwood Gardens during the second or third week in April the tulip gardens are in full bloom.  
Otherwise May until October are good months to visit and enjoy outdoor activities.

In formal gardens throughout Longwood the flowering tulips and daffodils line the beds and accent flowering trees and shrubs.  May first starts the flowering of plants and trees which include Grape Hyacinth, Azaleas, columbines, the flowering crabapple,  varieties of flowering Dogwoods, Flowering Cherry trees and  Foxglove
Beds along the walkways are intensely planted to maximize the duration of the  bloom.
You will see Irises   Japanese Flowering Dogwoods, Lilacs Peonies, Phlox, Marigolds, and borders of  many types of Rhododendron.  Also blooming in Spring will be Trillium,  Virginia Bluebells, and Wisteria.
Longwood Gardens also includes inside gardens, formal and exotic that will make sightseeing at Longwood Gardens a full day or more.

How to Reach Longwood Gardens:


Longwood Gardens is in Kennett Square PA on Route One.  
Reach Longwood via Route 95, the north south Interstate that runs through Philadelphia.  Longwood is in the Brandywine River Valley area which includes the Wyeth art at the Brandywine River Museum.

From
Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square on Route 1, you can drive 35 miles on Route 82 and then Route 30 to reach Lancaster PA and all the attractions in Pennsylvania Dutch Country,
