From the hill the Colonial soldiers could watch for the movement of British troops during the preparation for Washington's crossing of the Delaware.

Costumed Re-enactors commemorate the Christmas day when Washington loaded his 2,400 troops aboard 40 open boats normally used to carry pig iron and, with the help of New England fishermen, moved them across the icy Delaware River in the middle of a blizzard. You can still see where they landed on the New Jersey side at Johnson's Ferry in Titusville NJ  and the trail through the woods were they started an eight-mile march to fight the Battle of Trenton.
