See Part Two for tips on how to present your photos to
an editor for consideration in a publication.
The digital age has brought cameras and computers
that make the process of getting your photos
published much simpler.
This book will help you reach that goal by dividing
the process into two parts. The first part is about
making travel photos that have a value in the editorial
market, marketable travel photos, photos that will sell.
The second part covers the techniques used in
finding and approaching the editors who will buy your
photos.
To create technically sound and artistically pleasing
photos is one thing but to make photos that have
marketable value and then to know how to present
them to buyers is quite another.
In this new book travel photographer and writer David
Hilbert shares the secrets learned in 12 years of
selling photographs for travel and trade, and through
stock photo agencies.
Let this book put you on the fast track to selling your
travel photos. The book covers the topics below and
many others in part one. Part two covers the technique
of finding editors and presenting your photos for
publication in travel magazines.

All photos of
iconic travel
destinations need
updating regularly.
No matter how
many times a place
has been
photographed,
editors always look
for new and
updated photos.
A cover photo could
bring you $500
dollars and up but
will usually be a
vertical photo. You
should, therefore,
make an equal
number of vertical
images
ISO: Use the
low numbers:
50-100 unless
you have a
special situation
or a photo with
dramatic
editorial content.
You can gain depth
of field (sharpness) by
steadying the camera
while using a slow
shutter speed and a
smaller aperture
(larger number like f
22)
if your camera has
these settings.
A tripod, bean bag, or
Joby Gorillapod will
steady the camera
and prevent camera
shake at the low ISO
numbers and slow
shutter speed..
